Just Desserts
Every carnival has its illusions and games of chance. Join our P.F.A.S. (Penelope Fox Art Studio) team as we create the sweet treats of an old-fashioned county fair.
We will imagine our own "homemade recipes" then create drawings of our sweet dreams using various art techniques - from oil and/or chalk pastels, paint, paper, and glue. Techniques that help our budding artists/illustrators convey volume and mouthwatering depth of color in
layers that pop off the page. We will practice our fine motor skills and learn about the illusion of scale, volume, and texture. But most importantly, build what we call "art confidence."
Let us get cooking!

Prehistoric Times
Imagine striking a Piñata and all kinds of creatures fly, crawl or slither out. Yikes!
We will celebrate Native American & Mexican Art, Artists and Culture from mythical Mexican
" Albrujes" animals to the 400-year-old stone carvings of the Great Navajo Nation of the Southwest United States.
Next up are extinct North American animals. - Is a garbage truck large? You bet it is and so is the Woolly Mammoth that we will study. Scale, texture, and line will interact during this week of sculptural (3-D) and 2-D textural drawings.
Get ready to get down and dirty!
This is our combination of Art and Art History week.

Ocean Explorers
We will move from the depths of sea life, to the marshland, and finally to the shoreline. What are Salty Dogs, Sea Tars, tides and how they affect sea life? Want to know? - Then week three is NOT to be missed!
We start among the brilliant colors of the four (4) coral reefs of the world The Great Barrier Reef (Australia); the Amazon Reef (Brazil and French Guiana;) the Tubbataha Reef (Philippines) and the Miami Terrace Reef in the United States. Learn how animals camouflage themselves for
survival and recreate what we learn. Moving closer to the shore, we will explore Salt Marshes - Creating the illusions of the foreground; middle ground and background; and the layers of real coastal ecosystems. And finally to the seaside with Sea Shells Along the Beach where many secrets of the ocean are revealed. This segment will focus on a variety of textures and include a printmaking project. This study will focus on the emotions associated with color theory, color mixing, and optical illusions. Nature is our best teacher for this and no better place to start than the oceans of
the world.

Surrealism
What makes something real or imagined? Let us explore the differences and the similarities of both. We will create expected categories of animals, fruits; vegetables, flowers and humans and combine them in unusual ways to make whimsical and fantastical creatures or designs.
Each creation tells a story and students will be encouraged to write a brief and silly description of their creations. We encourage all of our students to share their stories and art and to appreciate the work of others no matter how fantastical or silly.
Let's get ”SUPER silly” for real!
